US President Donald Trump said he has decided to delay a planned military strike against Iran after Gulf leaders reportedly appealed to allow ongoing negotiations to continue.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates requested the postponement as “serious negotiations are now taking place.”

In a report by BBC, Trump also expressed confidence that a possible agreement could still be reached, stressing that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons.

Despite the temporary pause, the US president warned that Washington remains prepared to launch a “full, large-scale assault” against Iran if negotiations fail to produce an acceptable outcome.

The latest development comes amid continuing tensions between the United States and Iran following months of military conflict involving US, Israeli, and Iranian forces across the Middle East.

Iran, meanwhile, warned the United States against making further “strategic mistakes and miscalculations,” as talks between Washington and Tehran reportedly continue through Pakistani mediators.

Trump later told reporters there was “a very good chance” of reaching an agreement with Iran and said he would prefer a diplomatic solution over further military action.

The conflict largely centers on Iran’s nuclear program. While the United States and its allies accuse Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons development, Iran continues to insist that its nuclear activities are intended for peaceful purposes only.(Angel Sheane G. Dumas, CNU-Main Campus BA-Comm Intern)
