THE likes and shares may keep coming, but for some influencers, so could the estafa charges.

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) warned that content creators who persist in promoting online gambling despite government orders could soon be facing syndicated estafa complaints.

CICC deputy executive director Renato Paraiso said that while most influencers have complied with the agency’s directive, a few continue to ignore the warning.

“We noticed that almost all complied with the request but there are still some that are very defiant,” Paraiso said in an interview with ANC.

Last week, he disclosed that 20 of the country’s most prominent online personalities had been flagged for endorsing gambling platforms on social media. Paraiso said the CICC is prepared to reveal their identities if they continue to defy the directive.

The crackdown is part of a broader push to hold digital influencers accountable for unlawful online activities, particularly those that promote gambling to a wide and often young audience.(MyTVCebu)
