WET days are expected ahead in Cebu as rain and thunderstorms are forecast to persist.
The state weather bureau reported that a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon continue to affect the Visayas, bringing sustained unsettled weather.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas reported that Metro Cebu will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rainshowers and thunderstorms on Saturday, August 30, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
By Sunday, August 31, weather conditions are expected to worsen, bringing more widespread rains and lower daytime temperatures of 25 to 29 degrees Celsius.
From September 1 to 3, Cebu will continue to see occasional rainshowers and thunderstorms, with temperatures hovering between 24 to 31 degrees Celsius.
From a broader outlook, Pagasa said much of the country will also see cloudy and rainy weather this weekend due to the southwest monsoon, the trough of Tropical Storm Jacinto, and another LPA east of Mindanao.
Jacinto already exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) last Thursday, but its trough continues to bring rains over Ilocos Norte, Batanes, and Cagayan.
“But throughout the day, or by midday onwards, these rains will lessen. We will have improving weather, except for possible isolated rains due to thunderstorms,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said in a mix of Filipino and English.
Meanwhile, the LPA—designated as 08h—was last spotted 1,165 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao and is enhancing rains in Eastern Visayas, the Davao Region, and Caraga.
The combined effects of the LPA’s trough and the habagat are also expected to dampen Palawan, parts of the Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao, while Mimaropa and Metro Manila will likewise see rain and thunderstorms.
“In the afternoon and evening, there will be chances of rain, lightning, and thunder. This is still due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms,” Castañeda added.
Despite the wet weather, Pagasa has not issued any gale warnings, though it cautioned of moderate sea conditions, particularly in western seaboards, where waves may reach 1.2 to 2.5 meters.(TGP)
