FUNERAL rehearsals were conducted as the Pope continues to be hospitalized for double pneumonia.

Swiss newspaper Blick reports that the Swiss Guard has been rehearsing for the Pope’s funeral as his condition remains ‘complex’.

The Pope, according to American newspaper Politico, told two of his confidants that he may not be able to overcome his persistent lung-related disease.

Although the Vatican has cancelled his papal engagements, the Pope has “devoted himself to work activities,” as reported by the Holy Press Office.

The 88-year old pontiff was confined at the Gemelli Hospital for bronchitis last Friday, February 14,

His condition has advanced into “a polymicrobial infection,” requiring longer hospitalization.

The Vatican has not implied on how long the Pope will be hospitalized.

However, recent tests revealed a slight improvement in the POpe’s condition. He has been able to get out of bed, eat breakfast, and even engage in some work during his hospitalization.

Despite the improvement, the Pope was advised to observe complete rest.

Since the news of his hospitalization, worshippers and fellow church leaders around the world have been continuously offering their prayer intentions for his speedy and steady healing.

The Pope had been battling numerous diseases even before becoming a church leader. He had a part of his lung removed and had experienced hospitalizations in 2023 due to bronchitis and abdominal surgery.(Johanna Sumalinog, USJ-R Intern)
