FORMER politician Clavel Asas Martinez, matriarch of the Bogo City's Martinez politcal clan, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, January 20.
Bogo City Vice Mayor Maria Cielo "Mayel" Martinez confirmed her mother’s passing in a heartfelt post on social media.
The vice mayor announced that a public viewing service will take place from January 20 to 25 at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City.
The Cebu Provincial Board honored Martinez’s legacy with a resolution expressing deep condolences. She served as the representative for Cebu’s Fourth District from 1998 to 2007 and was celebrated for her dedication to public service.
The resolution noted that her passing leaves a profound gap in the hearts of those who knew her.
“The Martinez clan and the rest of Cebu mourn the loss of a former Cebu Provincial Board Member and Congresswoman,” the resolution stated, emphasizing her vital contributions to the province and its people.
The vice mayor's emotional Facebook post shared the family's personal grief and also highlighted her strength amid the loss.
“Though it pains us to say goodbye, Mom, we take comfort in the thought that you are now reunited with Daddy in heaven,” she wrote. Mayel shared how her parents' words of encouragement guided her during challenging times,” the vice mayor said.
“I showed up for work today, Mom, because I know it is what Dad and you would have had me do. Whenever I would share my struggles with you, you would always say, ‘Be strong, Inday. God will not leave nor abandon us,” she added.
Reflecting on her mother's significant impact, Mayel added, “After 48 years, the new Comprehensive Land Use Plan of Bogo was finally approved by the Provincial Board. I know you and Daddy are very happy.”
The board's resolution, authored by Provincial Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco, was adopted on January 21.
