CEBU may experience a heat index of up to 42 degrees Celsius at some point this April, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of Pagasa-Mactan, said the projected heat index reflects how hot it may feel to the human body when relative humidity is factored in with actual air temperature.
The heat index is not the actual air temperature but indicates how warm conditions may feel, especially during dry and humid periods.
In its latest forecast, Pagasa Visayas said Cebu will experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms in the coming days.
On Saturday, April 12, the temperature is expected to range from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate winds from the east to northeast and slight to moderate coastal conditions.
Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, April 13, with forecast temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. Winds and seas will remain stable.
From April 14 to 16, PAGASA said Cebu will continue to experience partly cloudy skies with warm daytime weather. Temperatures are forecast to range from 27 to 33 degrees Celsius, with no major changes expected in wind or sea conditions.
With temperatures expected to climb in the coming weeks, government agencies are reminding the public to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
PAGASA has advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours, and monitor official weather updates.
The Department of Health (DOH) also issued reminders on how to prevent heat-related conditions such as heat stroke, which can cause dizziness, fever, muscle cramps, flushed skin, and even loss of consciousness.
To minimize risk, DOH recommends avoiding strenuous outdoor activities between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., drinking plenty of water, wearing light and loose clothing, and using protective items such as hats or umbrellas when exposed to direct sunlight.
Both agencies continue to monitor conditions as heat index levels in several areas approach dangerous thresholds.(MyTVCebu)
