CEBU festivals took the spotlight at the Kasanggayahan National Festival of Festivals 2024 with Cebu City's

Sinulog Festival winning the top prize and Lapu-Lapu City's Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu Festival making it to the top five.

Held at the Sorsogon Sports Arena on Wednesday night, October 16, Sinulog Festival claimed the grand prize worth a whopping P4 million.

The festival, known for its vibrant displays and deep devotion to the Santo Niño, also got an additional P500,000 after winning the Best in Costume and Best in Moving Choreography awards.

The Sinulog contingent impressed the judges with their dynamic performances and intricate costumes, reaffirming their status as a premier cultural celebration in the Philippines.

Additionally, Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu Festival finished fourth runner-up, winning P500,000.

The performance honored Lapu-Lapu’s heroism and victory in the Battle of Mactan, celebrating the courage and cultural pride of the Oponganon people on a national stage.

The event featured First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos as one of the judges.

Meanwhile, The Tanglawan Festival from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, wound up first runner-up, taking home P3 million and an additional P100,000 for the Festival Queen award.

Daraga, Albay’s Cagsawa Festival earned second runner-up with a prize of P2 million. Gayon Ciudad Festival from Sorsogon City placed third runner-up, winning P800,000 and an additional P200,000 for Best in Music.

Sorsogon Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office chief Bobby Gigantone thanked all participants and judges.

"The winners deserved the awards with their best efforts. This is also our opportunity to say thank you to all the contingents for showcasing their festivals,” Gigantone said.

He also highlighted the positive economic impact of the festival.

“With all the stakeholders in the industry, we are fully booked until Oct. 28, which means there is an impact on accommodation, transport, and food sectors,” he added, pointing out the benefits for local businesses.

The Kasanggayahan Festival continues with key events, including a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest serving of nut praline on October 24 and the coronation of Miss Kasanggayahan Philippines on October 27.(MyTVCebu)
