META, the mother company of Facebook and Instagram, has fired over 20 employees from its Los Angeles office for abusing company meal credits.

These employees reportedly used their $25 meal allowance to buy household items like laundry detergent and wine glasses, and even have their meals delivered to their respective homes, according to The Financial Times.

The tech giant fired around two dozen employees after finding out that the alleged abuse of the meal credits had been going on for quite some time already.

There were those who have used that kind of system only a few times and were just reprimanded.

These employees are working across different platforms under Meta like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Reality Labs.

A former employee even said they used the meal credits to buy toothpaste and other items.

Meta, like tech companies, usually offers meal credits to its employees especially with the long hours of work.

Meta did not give detailed information on the said lay off which happened last week.

The tech company issued a statement through its spokesperson Tracy Clayton saying that the lay off is part of the series of separate restructurings of the company.

“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” Meta said.

“This includes moving some teams to different locations, and moving some employees to different roles. In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.”it furthered.(LAO)
