THE city government of Cebu is determined to file charges against the driver who hit a traffic enforcer manning the traffic on Monday night, September 30.

Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said he believed that the incident “was done with malice.”

"Grabe naman sad, dili naman to aksidente. Tinuyo naman to! (That was too much, it wasn't an accident. That was intentional)," Garcia said after Cebu City Traffic Office head Raquel Arce showed him the video footage of the incident .

The traffic enforcer was directing traffic on the intersection of F. Cabahug Street and Pope John Paul Avenue when a vehicle swerved in his direction and rammed him.

The impact sent the traffic enforcer sprawling to the ground and limped as he stood up.

Garcia emphasized that he had given specific instructions to proceed with filing a case against the driver involved in the incident.

He revealed he instructed Councilor Rey Gealon, head of the City Council’s traffic committee, to ensure that the filing process is completed.

Garcia stressed that they are determined to pursue the driver.

Despite the possibility of the traffic enforcer and the driver settling the matter, Garcia insisted that the case should still be filed.

He also said that if the enforcer is hesitant to cooperate, he would instruct him to do so, as the traffic office falls under his jurisdiction.

"We are very serious about that. Gukdon to namong draybera (We will run after the driver)," he said.

Garcia added that he wants to send a strong message to motorists that they cannot act with impunity toward traffic enforcers.

The acting mayor said that he will provide medical assistance to the injured traffic enforcer.(MyTVCebu)
