PRAYING for Cebu’s protection from disasters this year, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro performed the traditional halad (offering) dance during the Sinulog Ritual Showdown and Grand Parade at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, Jan. 18.

“Akoang giampo sa Sto. Nino, unta wala na intawn earthquake ug typhoon moigo sa atoa this year,” Baricuatro said before stepping onto the stage.

She shared the stage with the Karansa Festival dancers of Danao City, who had initially decided not to compete this year but later joined as guest performers.

Department heads from the Capitol and staff from the governor’s office also participated in the performance.

Danao City suffered severe flooding in November, while northern Cebu experienced a 6.9-magnitude earthquake on September 30, making the offering dance a symbolic prayer for safety and protection.

“I am with them, it gives me a lot of excitement. As well performing for the people here,” Baricuatro said.

Earlier, Baricuatro said this year will focus on recovery and rebuilding while continuing development initiatives across the province.

In a press coference last December, she described the year as promising, with planned investments and programs aimed at strengthening Cebu’s growth.

The governor also expressed gratitude for opening the Sinulog Festival alongside Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival after the mass held before the Ritual Showdown and Grand Parade.

“There is unity in the province of Cebu and Cebu City, so I am really delighted I got invited because afterall it is the event of Cebu City. Sinulog is Cebu City,” she said.(MyTVCebu)
