THE Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles reported that approximately 150 Filipinos have been impacted by the ongoing wildfires ravaging Southern California.

In an interview with ANC, Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz confirmed that many of the affected individuals are currently seeking refuge in various evacuation centers.

As the wildfires continue to spread across the region, local authorities are working tirelessly to assist evacuees, including Filipinos, in finding long-term housing solutions.

Cruz highlighted that while many evacuees have been displaced, some are particularly vulnerable, as a number of them are undocumented and others have only minimal insurance coverage.

The Consul General reassured the public that California authorities are providing essential services, including medical assistance, to those in need.

“If you need help, if you need medical assistance, they will provide and assist,” Cruz said, stressing that no one will be left without support.

In response to the crisis, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs has authorized the consulate to offer emergency assistance to Filipinos affected by the wildfires.

A one-time relief fund of $200 will be provided to those in need, as the consulate continues to monitor the situation and offer assistance where possible.

Meanwhile, the wildfires, fueled by intense drought conditions and strong Santa Ana winds, have claimed at least 24 lives, with more than a dozen people still missing.

Authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation order for several areas as multiple fires continue to burn across the region.

The Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles urges all affected Filipinos to reach out for assistance and assures that efforts are underway to ensure their safety and well-being during this challenging time.(CMM)
