Suganob’s stock continues to rise, moves up in IBF, WBC rankings
REGIE Suganob, the face of PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, continued to rise in the world rankings of major boxing bodies.
Nicknamed the “The Filipino Phenom”, the highly skilled Suganob moved up in the light flyweight rankings of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Council (WBC) that brightened his chances of earning another world title shot.
The 28-year-old Suganob moved up from No. 5 to No. 3 in the IBF and climbed from No. 6 to No. 5 in the WBC.
Suganob’s improved rankings came after his dominant eighth-round technical knockout victory over African former WBO Global champion Siphamandla Baleni in the main event of “Kumong Bol-Anon 24” in Tagbilaran City last Feb. 28.
Currently on a five-fight winning streak, Suganob is aggressively chasing for another shot at the world crown after failing in his first attempt against South Africa’s Sivenathi Nontshinga in July 2023.
Led by sportsman-lawyer Floriezyl Podot, the PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions has already challenged WBO light flyweight champion Rene Santiago.
Santiago is putting his title on the line against Masataka Taniguchi on April 3 in Tokyo, Japan.
Suganob, who has 18 victories in 19 fights with seven knockout wins, is also eyeing IBF champion Thanongsak Simsri, who will defend his belt against Mexico’s Sergio Mendoza Cordova on April 13 also in Tokyo.(CCM)
