MANNY Pacquiao, the FIlipino boxing icon who is the only fighter to win world titles in eight different divisions, is the leading candidate eligible to be enshrined into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2025.

Owing to his sterling career, the legendary boxer-turned-politician Pacquiao is tipped to be a first ballot inductee.

Pacquiao, a former senator, started his boxing career in 1995 and retired in 2021. He accumulated 62 wins, eight losses, and two draws. The hard-hitting Pacquiao, a former senator, tallied 39 knockout wins in an illustrious career that saw him defeat the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, and Antonio Margarito.

The inductees will be announced in December while the annual induction will be from June 5 to 8 in Canastota, New York.

Aside from Pacquiao, other boxing greats who are eligible for enshrinement are Mikey Garcia, Lucian Bute and Shawn Porter.

Pacquiao is poised to become the third Filipino boxer to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame after Gabriel “Flash” Elorde in 1993 and Pancho Villa in 1994. FIlipino boxing promoter Lope Sarreal Sr. was also enshrined into the HOF in 2005.

Once formally inducted, Pacquiao will also join former trainer Freddie Roach and former promoter Bob Arum in the Hall of Fame.(CCM)
