THERE’S no stopping Strong Group Athletics-Philippines as it cruised to a 91-75 nipping of Australia to remain undefeated in the 44th William Jones Cup on Wednesday night, July 16, the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City.
Welcoming the return of speedy guard Kiefer Ravena, Strong Group stretched its unbeaten run to four to keep pace with Bahrain, which leads the standings with a clean 5-0 (win-loss) slate.
Australia suffered its third loss in five matches.
Finally rejoining the team after fulfilling some commitments in Greece, Ravena gave Strong Group a huge lift by piling up nine points, two assists, and two rebounds.
Strong Group turned what was once a tight match into a one-sided affair when it staged a 21-9 run that gave them a huge 47-30 lead at the half.
It was a balanced attack for Strong Group with Andre Roberson leading the charge with 16 points. The former Oklahoma City Thunder standout also had 12 rebounds, six assists, and a steal.
Ian Miller added 12 points, six assists, and a steal, Tajuan Agee put in 12 markers and 11 boards, Ange Kouame tossed in 11 points, six rebounds, and a steal, and Dave Ildefonso contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon James Spencer led Australia with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.(CCM)
