TROPICAL storm “Mirasol” has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but typhoon “Nando” is threatening the country as it may become a super typhoon.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Nando has been steadily intensifying over the Pacific and may reach super typhoon category within the coming days as it moves westward.
While Nando is still far from Philippine landmass, its wide circulation could enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of Luzon and Visayas. Coastal communities are advised to remain on alert for possible rough seas.
Meanwhile, the exit of Mirasol means immediate storm threats to the country have lessened, but disaster officials remind the public not to be complacent as the peak of typhoon season continues.
Pagasa said it will continue monitoring Nando’s movement and intensity, urging the public to follow official advisories for updates.(Victoria Diana, USJR Comm Intern)
