THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors marked their return from a two-week layoff with a big-time performance as they took out the erstwhile unbeaten Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs, 51-47, in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Federation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 50 Basketball Tournament on Thursday night, Oct. 9, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Kyle Maglinte shot just 6-for-18 from the field, but did just enough to lead the Warriors to the win as he finished with 14 points, three steals, two rebounds, and an assist.

USC improved to an even 2-2 (win-loss)--good for third place in the team standings.

Reil Einer Aureo added eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks, three steals, and two assists while Emmanuel Akut contributed seven points.

No player scored in double figures for the Cheetahs, an offensive struggle that heavily contributed to its first debacle after starting the tournament with three successive wins.

Despite the loss that pulled them donw to 3-1 card, Benedicto is still at second spot, trailing the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers, who are off to a red-hot 5-0 start.

Serge Gabines and AJ Tolipas topped the Cheetahs with nine each while Nichol Cabanero put in seven points and 11 rebounds.(CCM)
