UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) scored a twinkill after the Green Lancers and the Baby Lancers thumped separate opponents in the basketball tournament of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 basketball tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Cebu Coliseum.
AJ Ejurango did it on both ends of the floor and led the Baby Lancers to a 67-59 win over the University of San JoseโRecoletos (USJ-R) Jaguar Cubs in the secondary action while the Green Lancers nipped the Cebu Institue of Technology-University Wildcats, 91-82, in the college division.
Ejurango came up with a double-double performance in the duel of two squads struggling to get into a good rhythm thi season.
The victory was just UVโs third in seven gamesโa record good only for seventh in the current team standings. USJ-R dropped to 3-6 (win-loss), good only for ninth spot in the 11-team field. Only the top four teams will advance to the playoffs.
Ejurango finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks, one steal, and one assist. Clint Paglinawan also helped prevent UV from falling further down the standings with 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
USJ-R was led by John Caresosa, who scored 16 points while Clyve Antig tossed in 12 markers.
The Green Lancers, on the other hand, earned a piece of the lead in the college division behind the solid outing of Karl Hayden Cabulao .
Cabulao led UV with 22 points as the Green Lancers tied the University of Cebu Webmasters at the No. 1 spot with identical 9-2 slates.
The Wildcats dropped to 2-9.(CCM)
