UV stifles UCLM for 3rd straight victory

THE defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers cruised to a big 95-63 win over the slumping University of Cebu- Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters in the the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Season 26 collegiate basketball tournament on Tuesday night, Sept. 22, at the Cebu Coliseum.

AJ Sacayan sank five triples to finish with 20 points as the Green Lancers chalked up another win after starting the season with a shock 68-81 loss to the University of San Carlos Warriors.

Kent Evo Salarda added 11 points while Steven Christian Cañete threw in nine points and 11 rebounds.

It was UV’s third straight victory that enabled them to go up in the team standings with a 3-1 (win-loss) record. The Green Lancers of head coach Gary Cortes are just behind the Benedicto College Cheetahs, the University of Cebu-Main Webmasters, and the Warriors.

The Cheetahs hold a perfect 4-0 card while the Warriors and Webmasters are 4-1.

UCLM, on the other hand, continued to spiral.

The Dondon Hontiveros-coached UCLM dropped to 1-4 after suffering a third straight debacle.

Javier Palco was the lone UCLM player in double figures with 16 points.(CCM)
