THE University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Baby Webmasters picked up a win that bolstered not just their playoff bid but also their hunt for a critical twice-to-beat advantage in the Final 4.

The Baby Webmasters nipped the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 79-69, to move atop the standings in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 basketball tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the

Cebu Coliseum.

The win allowed the Baby Webmasters to cut loose from a four-way logjam at first at second posts as they improved to 7-2 (win-loss). UCLM’s win left Cebu Eastern College, Cebu Institute Technology-University, and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu tied at second spot with identical 6-2 slates.

UCLM only has one game left which will be against the Don Bosco Greywolves on Dec. 5.

Only the top four teams will advance to the semifinal round with the top two seeds earning twice-to-beat incentives.

Leading UCLM’s crucial victory were Yancy Montealto and Rafael Calo, who both finished with 20 points. Montealto also had 11 rebounds while teammate Angel Cayobit had his own double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds.

The loss, on the other hand, was a major blow for USPF’s playoff bid as it slipped to 5-4.

Rox Catana paced USPF with 18 points while Luke Brent Dy pitched in 11 points and 13 rebounds.(CCM)
