EX-PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to file charges against former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after he presented documents linking the Duterte family to suspicious bank deposits during a congressional hearing on November 13.

The documents supposedly showed that P2.4 billion was deposited into the bank accounts of Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte between 2011 and 2015.

Speaking during a phone call with former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, who was streaming live on Tiktok on Thursday, November 14, Duterte denied Trillanes’ allegations and vowed to take legal action.

Duterte also pointed out discrepancies in the documents, including misspelled names of family members, which he said further undermined the credibility of Trillanes' allegations.

The former president expressed frustration over the ongoing accusations, claiming that if the allegations were true, he would ask his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, to step down from her post.

He accused Trillanes of spreading fake news and tarnishing reputations for personal gain, adding that someone should teach the former senator a lesson.

This is not the first time Trillanes has raised concerns over the Duterte family’s finances.

In 2016, Trillanes alleged that Duterte had a bank account with a similar amount of money, an accusation the former president strongly denied at the time.

Duterte also suggested that Trillanes may be receiving backing from Malacañang in his efforts to discredit the Duterte family.(CMM)
