A 19-YEAR-OLD man who was suspected to be the hitman of a drug personality was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City shortly before midnight on Monday, September 2.

Mark Jedrick Alvarez, a resident of Sitio San Pedro, Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City, was arrested with 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P340,000, police said.

An unlicensed .45 caliber pistol was also recovered from the suspect, police added.

Col. Antonietto Cañete, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said Alvarez was implicated in seven shootings incidents in the city.

The arrest of Alvarez will help investigators solve those shooting incidents, Cañete said.

Cañete said police have already identified the mastermind, who serves as the middleman and financier who would tap the services of Alvarez to kill those who fail to remit proceeds of illegal drugs.

“As far as the group neutralized na sila but we still cannot discredit basin naa pay other members. Of course with the help of the public, we can assure you they will not stand long, we will arrest them immediately,” Cañete said.

Canete said Alvarez admitted involvement in seven shooting incidents where he was accused of being the gunman.(CDB)
