A 26-YEAR-OLD man was arrested as a suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Luigi Mangione has been charged with murder after he was identified as the one who allegedly shot Thompson outside an investors' conference in Midtown Manhattan.

Mangione, an Ivy League graduate from Maryland, was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a multi-day investigation.

According to a report by CNN, along with the murder charge, he faces several counts related to weapons possession and a forged document.

The shooting of Thompson on the evening of November 30 set off an intense manhunt, with authorities analyzing hours of surveillance footage and gathering evidence.

The breakthrough came when a McDonald's employee recognized Mangione, who had been sitting at a table wearing a mask and beanie, and called police.

Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Mangione using a fake ID under the name Mark Rosario. He initially denied being in New York recently but later admitted his true identity.

Upon his arrest, Mangione was found with a 3D-printed ghost gun, a silencer, and a fraudulent New Jersey ID.

Authorities also recovered a document, reportedly a manifesto, that suggested Mangione harbored anti-corporate sentiments but did not specifically target Thompson.

The document included statements like "These parasites had it coming" and indicated Mangione acted alone, self-funded, and motivated by his disillusionment with corporate America.

The investigation revealed that Mangione had been traveling through Pennsylvania and may have frequented businesses in the area prior to his arrest.

His family, in a statement, expressed shock and devastation, while UnitedHealth Group offered condolences to Thompsonโ€™s family and colleagues.

New York officials praised the work of law enforcement in bringing the case to a close, noting that the apprehension was the result of diligent police work and public tips.(CMM)
