Survey: Majority of Americans say government is not protecting them from toxic chemicals
MOST Americans—over 70%—feel uneasy about toxic chemicals in their food and water, a recent Pew Charitable Trusts survey showed.
Five out of six adults want both the government and private companies to step up and do more to protect people from harmful chemicals.
Pew’s Safer Chemicals Project talked to more than 5,000 adults last October, a report by BBC said.
The concern’s everywhere, regardless of age and politics.
About 84% of people say the federal government should work harder to track down and regulate dangerous chemicals in our everyday products. Support for stronger rules isn’t just a partisan thing, either. Almost 80% of Republicans, nearly 90% of independents, and 88% of Democrats say the government just isn’t doing enough to keep chemicals in check.
All this is happening while President Trump’s administration takes a beating from environmental and public health groups.
