Shipping firm raises San Rem-Santa Fe trip fare
A LOCAL shipping company will impose a P10-fare increase for its Hagnaya Port, San Remigio- Santa Fe, Bantayan Island and vice versa trip.
Island Shipping Corp. announced that the fare rate adjustment will take effect on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The fare adjustment is due to the continued increase in petroleum products, which affects the company’s operation.
The adjusted rate for regular passengers is P380, while those Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens is P271.45. As for the students, the new fare rate is P304, while minors aged 11 years to one year old is P190.
“Discounted fares for PWD, Senior Citizens, Students and Children shall remain subject to the applicable discount and identification requirements,” the company said.
The fuel surcharge is implemented to help operators manage their daily operations.
The other two shipping companies, like Aznar Shipping and Super Shuttle Ferry, both plying the mainland Cebu-Bantayan Island route, have not yet released any fare adjustment.
Earlier this year, shipping companies in the north were forced to impose a fare hike after fuel prices increased due to the Middle East conflict.
Fare reductions were imposed in May the same year following fuel price rollbacks. The reduction came after a meeting between local officials in Bantayan Island, the Maritime Industry Authority, and shipping company officials.
This week, another major fuel price increase is expected with diesel potentially increasing P4 to P4.50 per liter and P5.50 to P6 per liter for gasoline, according to an energy industry source cited by multiple reports.(MyTVCebu)
