SENIOR citizens and patients admitted to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital can now access free maintenance and prescription medicines.

Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan announced that, through a new initiative starting on Monday, October 21, the city will provide medicines to seniors and hospitalized patients when the needed drugs are unavailable at the hospital’s pharmacy.

The initiative, which involves a partnership with Rose Pharmacy, aims to alleviate concerns over access to medications, particularly for those reliant on maintenance prescriptions.

“Pasyente sa atong district hospitals ug senior citizens dili na mag problema asa mokuha sa tambal nga dili available sa atong Lapu-lapu City pharmacy (Patients in our district hospitals and senior citizens will no longer have to worry about where to get medicines that are unavailable at the Lapu-Lapu City pharmacy),” Chan said.

Under the program, beneficiaries will first present their prescriptions to the hospital’s pharmacy. If the prescribed medicine is unavailable, the pharmacist will indicate this on the prescription.

The patient or their representative can then take the prescription to the Malasakit Center, where they will be issued a Guarantee Letter and Monitoring Charges for Outsourcing Services (MCOS).

These documents, along with the patient’s identification card, will be presented at one of the three Rose Pharmacy branches in Gun-ob, Tamiya, or Marina Mall in Lapu-Lapu City to claim the medicines.

Eligible patients can avail of up to P5,000 worth of medicines during their hospital stay.

“Ang validity period, sulod lang sa panahon nga admitted ang pasyente (The validity period is only for the duration of the patient’s hospital admission),” Chan said.

Meanwhile, for senior citizens, the program provides P3,000 worth of medicines every six months, totaling P6,000 annually for maintenance medication.

This new initiative builds on Lapu-Lapu City's efforts to expand healthcare support for its residents.

Chan emphasized that the city continues to work on improving access to healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable sectors like the senior citizens.(MyTVCebu)
