THE impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte may have been archived by the Senate but for her defense, the work is not yet over.
Duterte's defense team said the case is not yet over since the Supreme Court (SC) is yet to decide on the motion for reconsideration filed by the House of Representatives.
The Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President has been archived after a 19-4-1 vote by the Senate on Wednesday, August 6.
Those who voted no were Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senators Bam Aquino, Francis Pangilinan, and Risa Hontiveros. Senator Panfilo Lacson abstained.
If the SC decides to reverse its decision finding the impeachment case unconditional, the Senators may vote to revive the case.
Michael Poa, spokesman of the Vice President's 16-member defense team, told dzBB on Thursday, August 7 that their focus “is to comment on the arguments in the motion for reconsideration.”
Poa added that the Vice President is ready to face the allegations of misuse of confidential funds.
“The Vice President already said that she is ready to respond at the right time,” he said per a report by Philstar. “As part of the defense team, it is our position that it should be done in the proper forum, through the proper legal channels and processes, and the allegations should be backed up by proper evidence.”
According to Poa, Duterte's defense team has been preparing for the case since February.(Marlon Ado Jr., USC Comm Intern).
