VETERAN fighter Froilan Saludar showed he still has a lot left in the tank when he dominated an erstwhile undefeated Venezuelan opponent to bring home a regional belt.
Saludar, the 35-year-old native of Polomolok, South Cotabato, pulled off a unanimous decision win over Williams Flores to snatch the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) International bantamweight title on Saturday (Philippine time), November 16, in Dubai, UAE.
All three judges scored the fight for Saludar, who banked on precise attacks to shock the heavily favored Flores. Scores were 115-113, 115-114, and 116-112.
Winning his last two fights, Saludar hiked his record to 36W-8L-1D. The record includes 25 knockout (KO) victories.
With the two straight wins, Saludar appeared to have righted the ship after he suffered a knockout loss to Japanese fighter Keita Kurihara in their rematch for the IBF and OPBF regional belts in Cebu last January.
Flores, on the other hand, suffered his first loss in 19 fights. He has 13 KO wins.(CCM)
