Russian delegation will be Pasigarbo’s special guests
A DELEGATION from St. Petersburg, Russia, will fly in to witness Pasigarbo sa Sugbo festival, continuing the cultural exchange initiated by Cebu officials, including Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who previously visited St. Petersburg.
The Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, celebrated as the “festival of festivals,” will be held on August 25 and 26 at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia confirmed this at a recent multi-sectoral meeting, despite opposition from suspended Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama from holding the event at CCSC.
The festival was relocated to Carcar City last year due to the CCSC’s closure for renovations, which were part of preparations for the Palarong Pambansa. The renovation project began in October 2023 and was expected to finish by May 2024.
Garcia reassured the audience, including mayors, Cebu City Government representatives, law enforcement, and private sector partners, that the CCSC remains a suitable venue, emphasizing that there should be no concerns about the event’s location.
This year’s festival will showcase over 50 contingents and is a highlight of Cebu’s month-long founding anniversary celebrations.
Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia confirmed
that the city government is fully backing the event. Support will include 279 traffic personnel, eight mobile patrols, 124 disaster response staff, 244 local school board members, and 268 maintenance workers for the installation of portalets and portabaths.
Additionally, the Police Regional Office will deploy 1,233 officers, with further assistance from the Cebu Police Provincial Office, which will supply 12 vehicles, ten motorcycles, 150 security escorts, and 400 officers.
The AFP-Joint Task Group and Bureau of Fire Protection will also contribute to event security, while the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard will handle transportation logistics for contingents and equipment.(MyTVCebu)
