Rookie guard takes charge as Benedicto goes 2-0 in Cesafi basketball
BANKING on the solid all-around game of one of their new recruits, the Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs made it two-in-a-row in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Season 24 after they tripped the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 73-66, on Tuesday night, October 1, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cheetahs improved to 2-0 (win-loss) in what has been a solid start this season after they ranked just eighth last year.
BC drew a solid outing from rookie point guard Albert Joshua Tolipas, who stuffed the stat sheet in his debut with a tally of 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 29 minutes of action.
Tolipas formed a deadly one-two punch with brother Rogelio Tolipas Jr., who pitched in 10 markers.
Jesli Dela Cruz was equally productive for the Cheetahs as he coughed up 12 points and nine rebounds. Another rookie also shone bright for the Cheetahs with Allen Angelo Alicando sinking three three-pointers to finish with nine points.
James Gica led USC with 18 markers but shot just 5-of-14 from the field as the Warriors failed to snap their slide and dropped to 0-3.(CCM)
