FORMER NBA standout Andre Roberson delivered another strong game to carry Strong Group-Philippines to a 79-67 win over the Japan Developmental Team in the 44th William Jones Cup on Monday night, July 14, at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City.

After producing 17 points, 19 rebounds, and five steals in Strong Groupโ€™s 67-56 win over Chinese Taipei last Sunday, Roberson, a former standout of the Oklahoma City Thunder, dropped 15 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks on Japan as the Philippine-based squad improved to 2-0 for a hot start to their title-retention bid.

Roberson teamed up with DJ Fenner in a crucial run by Strong Group as Japan forced a 39-all standoff early in the third period.

Starring Roberson and Fenner, Strong Group responded with a 31-14 attack to build a safe 70-53 lead in the final six minutes.

Fenner contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, Javi Gomez de Liaรฑo pitched in 13 points, Rhenz Abando logged 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, while Tajuan Agee tossed in 10 points before leaving the game due to injury.

A much-needed help is coming for Strong Group as Keifer Ravena will be joining the team for its match against the NBL1 Rising Stars of Australia on Wednesday.

Before battling Australia, Strong Group will shoot for its third straight win against Qatar at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15.(CCM)
