DESPITE a massive overhaul, victories remain elusive for the Cebu Classics in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The retooled Classics will try to finally break the slump when they battle the Imus Braderhood on Friday, July 11, at the Imus City Sports Complex in Cavite.
Cebu had gone 0-2 since dropping its old name, Cebu Greats, and bringing in a new set of players. The major revamp has yet to pay dividends with the squad losing its last two games–the last one to the tune of a tight 78-81 loss to Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle GameX.
The revamp saw the acquisition of JR Quiñahan, Jun Manzo, Mac Tallo, Paul Desiderio, and Reeve Ugsang. Jan Hamon, Mark Meneses, and Brylle Meca are the remnants of the old squad.
The Classics also hired new coach Junthy Valenzuela. There had been reports that Dondon “Cebuano” Hontiveros but the Cebuano basketball legend has yet to suit up for the Classics.
Hontiveros’ son, Ice, has already played for the team.
Cebu bowed to Biñan despite the 31-point explosion of JR Quiñahan. Losers of seven straight games, the Classics are mired at 24th place in the team standings with only four wins in 18 games.
Imus is at 15th spot with eight wins and 11 defeats. The Braderhood is coming off a 72-98 defeat to the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys.(CCM)
