SUPPORTERS of controversial televangelist Apollo Quiboloy have thrown their support behind two Cebu politicians for the 2025 midterm elections.
Alan Tamondong, Quiboloy’s lead campaigner in the Visayas, told MyTV Cebu that members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) are endorsing the candidacies of dismissed Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and gubernatorial hopeful Pamela Baricuatro.
Tamondong said the group's backing is rooted in Rama and Baricuatro’s continued allegiance to Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP), the former ruling party led by ex-President Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte, a longtime ally of Quiboloy, remains influential among his political base despite recent controversies.
Tamondong claimed that KOJC has over 200,000 members in Cebu, with the majority residing in Cebu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, and Liloan.
He said these numbers could translate into a significant voter base for the endorsed candidates.
Quiboloy, who faces multiple legal issues both in the Philippines and the United States, including allegations of human trafficking and financial fraud, remains a polarizing figure in Philippine politics.
While his supporters dismiss the accusations as politically motivated, his endorsement could impact voters aligned with Duterte’s coalition.
Both Rama and Baricuatro have yet to issue statements regarding the endorsement. However, the development signals a strategic alignment between Quiboloy’s group and PDP-aligned candidates in Cebu as the election season intensifies.
During their proclamation rally in Liloan town, Tamondong said Quiboloy’s Senate campaign prioritizes governance reforms, tourism development, agricultural sustainability, and national security.
Quiboloy’s platform emphasizes strengthening the tourism sector as a key economic driver while promoting food sustainability through enhanced agricultural policies.
Regarding national security, Tamondong said that Quiboloy plans to adopt a hardline approach against terrorism and other threats to the country’s stability.(MyTVCebu)
