Poultry farm in Aloguinsan ordered temporarily closed
OPERATIONS at a poultry farm in Aloguinsan, southwest Cebu has been temporarily suspended due to severe fly infestation affecting nearby communities.
The temporary suspension imposed against Bene Harvest Farms in Barangay Bonbon was announced on Monday, May 25, through the local government unit's Facebook page, Asenso Aloguinsan.
The suspension stemmed from the complaints of the residents living in the nearby barangays of Poblacion and Angilan due to sudden surge of houseflies
The complaints prompted the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offifce (MENRO) and sanitary inspector to conduct ocular inspection in the said farm.
During the inspection, large swarms of flies were found in residential areas and within the poultry farm during and after the farm's harvesting operations.
The management of the farm was ordered to conduct intensive space spraying and larvicide applications.
However, during the May 14 and 15 follow-up inspection of the same personnel, there were still presence of flies in different areas
Another inspection was conducted on May 16, and was found out that the even with the harvesting operations of broilers was already done, flies remained present in several areas.
The Municipal Task Force on Piggery and Poultry Inspection Team identified "lapses" on the farm's harvesting operations which include improper poultry manure management, delayed application of larvicides or space-spraying treatments after harvesting, prolonged duration of the harvesting activity, and lack of nets in some areas of poultry facilities.
According to the LGU, these are violations of Section 9 of Ordinance No. 06-2022 as amended.
“With the findings and recommendations submitted by the Joint Incident and Inspection Report submitted by the Municipal Task Force on Piggery and Poultry Inspection Team of the LGU, due to the community complaints of ily infestations in Barangay Bonbon, as well as in the neighboring Barangays of Poblacion and Angilan, a temporary suspension of the operation of Bene Harvest Farm Incorporated is hereby issued effective immediately” read the suspension order signed by Aloguinsan Mayor Cesare Ignatius Moreno dated May 21, 2026.
The suspension order will remain in effect until the farm pays P50,000 fine payable to the Municipal Treasurer's Office, and secures clearance from MENRO and the rural sanitary inspector for its next production cycle.(MyTVCebu)
