THERE was no foul play in the deaths of two boys who were found dead in an abandoned car in a garage in Barangay Tuyan, Naga City, Cebu on Wednesday, May 20.

Lt. Col. Dexter Calacar, chief of Naga City Police Station, said this was the initial finding of the investigation conducted by personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operation.

Reymar Conag and Jheff Xian Abellar, both seven-year-olds, were last seen alive on Sunday, May 17.

Fearing that the disappearance was a case of abduction, the parents of the children sought help from the police.

A search operation was launched and it was only last Wednesday that the decomposing bodies were found inside the car.

Police were able to find the two boys through security camera footage showing them walking toward a garage.

While looking for the two boys, police noticed a stench.

The foul odor led the police to a car where the two boys were found dead. The vehicle is owned by a former councilor in Naga.

There were reports that the two boys may have been trapped while playing inside the car, whose doors are defective and can only be opened from outside.

Police said the owner of the car has reached out to the boys’ families and pledged to provide assistance.

Calacar said the car owner could not be held criminally but may face civil liability.(CDB)
