TEMPERAMENTAL athlete John Amores figured in another violence that may have just put his professional basketball career in serious jeopardy.

Amores, who plays for the NorthPort Batang Pier in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), surrendered to the police at dawn Thursday, September 26, after he was allegedly involved in a shooting incident.

Amores was allegedly the armed man who got off a motorcycle, shot but missed a man in the middle of the road in Barangay Maytalang Uno, Lumban, Laguna.

The shooting incident was captured by a security camera.

The victim was identified as Lee Cacalda.

Police said Amores and Cacalda got into a heated argument in a basketball game prior to the shooting incident.

Amores left the basketball court aboard a motorcycle driven by his 20-year-old brother. Cacalda allegedly followed Amores after their heated exchange and the shooting ensued.

It was around 2 a.m. on Thursday when the Amores brothers surrendered to the police. The two refused to comment on the issue.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial refused to talk much about the issue while police investigation is ongoing but emphasized that the league is saddened by the incident.

This another episode of violence involving Amores came two years after he ran amok in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Then playing for the Jose Rizal University Bombers, Amores got into a fight with some players of the St. Benilde Blazers.

In the November 8, 2022 incident, Amores ran towards the bench of St. Benilde, threw a flurry of punches and hit several Blazers.

The NCAA then slapped an indefinite ban against Amores because of the incident.

Despite his misdemeanor in the NCAA, Amores still made it to the pro league when NorthPort chose him in the second round of the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft.(CCM)
