THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed charges against four vloggers based abroad for allegedly spreading misinformation on Philippine affairs, including the manipulation of state officials' interviews.
Charges filed include violations of the Anti-Alias Law, instigating public disorder, and unlawful media publication practices.
The NBI, in coordination with the Department of Justice, filed the case on Tuesday, April 22.
One of the key grounds for the case was the altered statement of NBI Director Jaime Santiago.
Santiago's remarks about pursuing legal action against overseas-based purveyors of fake news were falsely edited to imply the possible arrest of overseas Filipino workers, according to Raymond Macorol of the NBI Criminal Intelligence Division in Philstar report.
No names have been released, but these social media vloggers are reportedly based in Saudi Arabia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. (Lovely May C. Mutia, CTU-TC Intern)
