NBA DAILY RECAP: Wembanyanma explodes for 52, helps Spurs escape Mavs
VICTOR Wembanyama delivered a monster performance to power the San Antonio Spurs to a tight 112-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday (Philippine time), Nov. 5.
Wembanyama scored a career-high 52 points and grabbed 24 rebounds, also a career-high, as the Spurs stretched their winning streak to six to improve to 6-2 (win-loss) in the season.
Narrowly missing a triple-double after also recording eight blocks, Wembanyama collected 29 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the first half to become the first player since the NBA’s play-by-play era began in 1996-1997 with at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a half.
Dylan Harper added 21 points and Stephon Castle tossed in 17 points and 10 rebounds for San Antonio, which made it to last season’s Finals but lost to the New York Knicks.
Kyrie Irving fired 29 points but couldn’t save the Mavericks from absorbing a second straight loss after missing a 15-foot jumper in the final three seconds.
Naji Marshall scored 22 points, P.J. Washington had 21 points and Cooper Flagg added 19 for Dallas, which dropped to 4-4.(CCM)
