Not one, not two, not three, but four awards for MyTV Cebu!

MyTV Cebu reaffirmed its status as a leading cable and digital media platform when it made a remarkable impact at the inaugural Cebu Metropolitan Catholic Mass Media Awards (CM-CMMA) held on September 29, at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu.

MyTVCebu, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, proudly received one prestigious award along with three special citations, emphasizing its dedication to quality journalism and community engagement.

The spotlight shone on MyTV Cebu after it won the “Best Event Coverage Award” for its outstanding live broadcast of the Sinulog 2024 in January, which showcased the vibrancy and cultural significance of this beloved festival. The livestream has since amassed over 170,000 views on YouTube.

In addition to this top honor, MyTV Cebu earned three special citations under the Television Category, reflecting its diverse programming.

A special citation for “Best Magazine Show” went to MyTV Cebu’s multi-awarded “AnDiscoveries,” particularly the episode entitled “Discovering the Story of the Missing Treasures of Boljoon Cebu.”

This special episode, hosted by Creative/Program Director Andrea Patena-Matheu, delves into the missing liturgical antiques from the Archdiocesan Shrine of Patrocinio de Maria Santisima in Boljoon, Cebu. The production team included cameramen Randy Berrame and Peter Gornez, graphics artist Chad Reynoso, and social media specialist Joanne Clarisse Espinosa.

Notably, “AnDiscoveries” also received the award for “Best TV Magazine Show” at the 20th Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards (CAMMA) in 2022.

Matheu expressed her gratitude, sharing, “This recognition inspires us to continue our mission of creating truthful and informative content that makes a difference.”

Another citation for “Best Special Events” was awarded to MyTV Cebu’s “Diploma,” produced by News Editor Angelica Fay Saniel along with Berrame, Gornez, and Reynoso.

This powerful report sheds light on the critical shortage of Alternative Learning System (ALS) centers in Cebu, revealing the inspiring journeys of individuals like Florentino Idias. A backhoe operator who overcame formidable obstacles, Florentino achieved his dream of completing junior high school through ALS at the age of 50 in 2022, proving that determination can triumph over adversity.

“Diploma” was also honored as the “Best News Story of the Year” at the Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA) in 2023.

“This achievement is a collective victory for our storytellers, sources, and the community affected by this story. May it motivate us to uncover and share more inspiring narratives,” Saniel remarked.

The third special citation recognized MyTV Cebu’s “Voces Amoris,” hosted by Sr. Nancy Mirafuentes featuring Bro. Noe Dura, with production by Kirby Campo. This show previously won “Best TV Talk Show at the 20th CAMMA.

The CM-CMMA expanded upon the former CAMMA, recognizing the works of media organizations and practitioners from Cebu and its suffragan dioceses, including Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Maasin, and Talibon.

The event was graced by Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, Bishop Marcelino Antonio “Junie” M. Maralit, Jr. (Chair of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Social Communications), Rev. Msgr. Agustin “Ting” Ancajas (Chairman, CACoSCo), and Rev. Fr. Ramonito P. Maata (Chair, Commission on Social Communication, Diocese of Dumaguete), among other local media personalities and jurors from the academe.

“We hope this initiative serves as an example to other dioceses as they respond to the Communication Pastoral theme ‘to Create, Collaborate, and Commune,’ promoting the responsible use of media in social communication and advocating for honest journalism, Msgr. Ancajas said in his opening remarks.
