Mortashield takes down Mortapaint in marquee Mortabond Cup duel

MORTASHIELD prevailed in a duel of marquee teams as it took down erstwhile undefeated Mortapaint, 78-75, in the ongoing 3rd Mortabond Cup 2026 of the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) last Sunday, March 1, at the Game Changer in Mandaue City.

The tight win created a logjam at the No. 1 spot of the standings as Mortashield and Mortapaint now has similar 4-1 (win-loss) records.

Kurt Damandaman was all over the court to lead Mortashield’s key win, finisihing with 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

James Nacario added 12 points in the win while Jun Villacorta and Reddick Palmitos each pitched in 10 markers.

Mortapaint’s loss put to naught the solid outing of John Therese Buhawe, who tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Gerald Lentorio had 20 points in the losing effort.

In another game, Mortaseal Flexi pocketed its third in five games by beating Duraplas Lite, 86-77.

Chester Hinagdanan topped Mortaseal Flexi with 24 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block. Michael Judilla chipped in 17 points, Jay Devenadera had 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Justin Aspacio contributed 12 points and 11 assists in what was a deadly balanced attack by Mortaseal.

Manuel Niere scored 24 in Duraplas Lite’s fourth loss in five outings.

Also winning was Mortaflow, which toppled Mortaplug, 81-69.(CCM)
