WITH more than 200 people on board, a Jetstar flight from Denpasar, Bali, to Melbourne was forced to turn back after a female passenger attempted to open an aircraft door mid-flight.

The incident occurred approximately two hours into the journey, with the plane cruising at an altitude of 33,000 feet, a report by CNN said.

According to the report, the woman became aggressive with the crew and tried to access the emergency exit, prompting an immediate response from the flight staff. An off-duty police officer who was on board intervened to prevent her from opening the door.

Following the disturbance, the pilot made an emergency decision to return to Denpasar, citing safety concerns.

Upon landing, local authorities escorted the disruptive passenger off the plane.

Jetstar emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for unruly behavior and commended the flight crew and passengers who assisted in managing the situation.

As a result of the incident, the flight was canceled, and Jetstar worked on rebooking affected passengers on alternative flights.

In a statement, the airline apologized for the inconvenience and assured travelers that passenger safety remains its top priority.

The incident is the latest in a series of mid-air disturbances involving disruptive passengers, raising concerns about aviation safety and the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and further actions may be taken against the passenger involved.(Kate Glydel Anne Alegado & Rena Cris Ynoy, CTU-TC Interns)
