MCIA to mount more direct flights abroad

THE country’s second busiest airport is expanding its network of routes as it sets to mount additional flights to overseas destinations this year.

Beginning this November, Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will operate more direct flights between Vietnam, Japan and China.

Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet recently announced that it will launch its direct service between Cebu- Hanoi and Cebu-Ho Chi Minh on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 respectively.

In a separate announcement, Philippine low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific will be launching new routes between Cebu and Shanghai, China and Cebu and Nagoya, Japan.

The Gokongwei-owned airline will also resume its Cebu-Ho Chi Minh-Cebu route. It was suspended last April as tensions in the Middle East impacted global jet fuel supply.

The additional routes will further expand MCIA's international connectivity, with the airport currently serving 19 overseas destinations.

These include Brisbane in Australia; Hong Kong; Osaka and Tokyo in Japan; Singapore; and Taipei in Taiwan.(RBE)
