THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has announced that it is conducting an inquiry into certain members of the mainstream media for allegedly inciting to sedition.

In a report by Philippine Star, NBI Director Jaime Santiago said that the investigation focuses on legitimate media personnel who are suspected of crossing ethical and legal boundaries in their reporting.

However, Santiago did not reveal the identities or the number of media practitioners involved in the agencyโ€™s probe.

Santiago added that these media members were not merely sharing their views, but were also stirring unrest and provoking public dissent.

They โ€œabused their freedom of speech and expression,โ€ the NBI chief said in the reoid.

NBI has announced earlier they are looking into 20 vloggers based overseas for supposedly spreading false information online.

Government officials are frequently targeted by vloggers who create content filled with hostility and misinformation, Santiago added.

He pointed out that these vloggers often post false reports about public officials, which are now under scrutiny.

In a televised interview, Santiago explained that some vloggers deliberately spread falsehoods to boost engagement and maximize their earnings.

He also noted that these individuals profit from the disinformation they disseminate, reaping the financial gains generated out of their misleading content.(Rey Martin Rio, USJ-R Comm Intern)
