King, Perez power SMB over Converge

IMPORT George King and CJ Perez put up big numbers to buoy the San Miguel Beermen to a 128-122 win over the Converge FiberXers in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday night, July 22, at the Ynares Center Antipolo.

King fired 41 points while Perez erupted for 31 markers in stellar offensive performances that helped the Beermen pocket a third straight win and join the NLEX Road Warriors at the top in Group A.

NLEX is also off to a 3-0 start.

Marcio Lassiter added 18 points, Don Trollano scored 11, June Mar Fajardo tallied 10 as the Beermen remained unbeaten under assistant coach Peter Martin.

Martin is coaching the Beermen amid the continuing absence of head coach Leo Austria.

Converge, on the other hand, suffered a first loss after starting the tournament with three straight victories.

Big men Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar combined for 45 points and 17 rebounds to lead Converge, which got just 15 points from import Jalen Hudson.
