Johnro, CBM clinch top seeds in AEBA Corporate Cup playoffs

JOHNRO Electrical and CBM Engineering secured a crucial twice-to-beat bonus in the playoffs at the culmination of the elimination round of the Architects and Engineers Basketball Association (AEBA) 9th Corporate Cup over the weekend at the University of San Carlos Downtown Campus Gym in Cebu City.

Johnro ended up as the No. 1 team after ending the elimination round with eight wins and just one loss. CBM finished as the second seed after piling up seven wins and two losses.

Only the Top 8 teams advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Avantrac also posted a 7-2 (win-loss) slate at the end of the eliminations but CBM took the No. 2 spot owing to its superior quotient. Avantrac will be the third seed followed by Sports & Play (5-4), RELLM Engineering (4-5), Dextructures (4-5), Davies Paints (4-5), and Sinclair (4-5).

Eliminated from the playoff race were EGS Survey and Fenestram, which ended the eliminations with 2-7 and 0-9 slates, respectively.

By finishing as the top two seeds, Johnro and CBM will be wice-to-beat in the quarterfinal round where they will meet Sinclair and Davies Paints, respectively.

Sinclair is responsible for Johnro’s lone loss in the eliminations, scoring a nail-biting 81-80 win on a buzzer-beater by Angelo Tanduyan.

The other two quarterfinal pairings will be played via sudden-death affairs with Sports & Play taking on RELLM and Avantrac batlling Dextructures.(CCM)
