SENATOR Jinggoy Estrada denied initiating moves to oust Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero as senate president but he admitted there was an attempt to shake up the leadership in the upper chamber.

Estrada assured Escudero that he will not go through the same fate that his predecessor suffered as he expressed his full support for the current senate president.

Estrada, who is the chamber’s second in command, emphasized that he has no intention of replacing Escudero and reiterated his commitment to his current role.

Despite acknowledging that some senators had previously attempted to unseat Escudero, he affirmed that those efforts had ultimately failed.

Escudero assumed the role of Senate President in May after garnering the support of 15 senators who signed a statement advocating for a leadership change.

Since then, he has maintained a solid backing from his colleagues, with Estrada confirming that there are no indications of dissent among those who initially supported the shift from Zubiri.

Zubiri stepped down earlier this year, citing conflicts over the Senate’s independence and the pressures he faced from external influences.(CMM)
