CEBU City-based Melvin Jerusalem and South African Siyakholwa Kuse are all set for their world title clash on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Araneta Coliseum.
The two fighters had no problem making the weight for the duel that is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the historic “Thrilla in Manila”.
At stake in the fights is Jerusalem’s World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight world title belt.
The two fighters both came in at 104.8 pounds during the weigh-in on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Jerusalem, a 31-year-old native of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, is looking to stay as one of only two active Filipino world boxing champions. The other Filipino boxer holding a current world title belt is Pedro Taduran, the reigning International Boxing Federation minimumweight king.
Jerusalem has 24 wins, 12 by knockout, and three losses. He retained his current belt by scoring a unanimous decision win over Japan’s Yudai Shigeoka last March.
Jerusalem is defending his belt for the third time.
The 22-year-old Kuse will come into the fight with nine wins, four by KO, two losses, and a draw.
Fighting for the first time outside South Africa, Kuse is looking to stretch his six-fight winning streak.
Also seeing action in the fight are two Cebu-based boxers ARQ Boxing Stable.
