THERE’S no slowing down “The Monster.”
Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue kept his unblemished record intact and stayed as the undisputed world super-bantamweight champion by stopping Irish challenger TJ Doheny on Tuesday night, September 3, in Tokyo.
Inoue peppered Doheny with solid body shots, sending his opponent down on his knees in the seventh round to seal his 28th straight victory in a rousing fashion.
The 37-year-old Doheny appeared to have suffered a back injury as he limped to his corner after getting severe punishment from the hard-punching Inoue.
The 31-year-old Inoue, a four-division world champion in light-flyweight, super-flyweight, bantamweight and now super-bantamweight, improved to 28W-0L-24KOs.
Doheny went home with only his fifth loss in 31 fights. He has 20 knockout victories.
Inoue fought his seventh straight world title fight in Japan. It was his 23rd world title fight since his first in 2014.
Inoue’s promoter, Bob Arum, said the Japanese sensation will defend his titles again in Tokyo before seeing action in Las Vegas.(CCM)
