A 27-YEAR-OLD woman in New Zealand was arrested and consequently charged after a two-year-old girl was found in her luggage while aboard a bus.
A report by BBC News stated that police were called to a bus stop in the small town of Kaiwaka on Sunday after a passenger requested access to the luggage compartment.
"The driver became concerned when he noticed the bag moving. When the driver opened the suitcase, they discovered the two-year-old girl," New Zealand Police stated.
Police noted that the two-year-old girl was “very hot, but otherwise appeared physically unharmed.”
Police confirmed that the little girl was taken to the hospital for medical assessment.
The woman's relationship with the girl has not been disclosed.
The woman was scheduled to appear in the North Shore District Court on Monday.
"We would like to acknowledge and commend the bus driver, who noticed something wasn't right and took immediate action, preventing what could have been a far worse outcome," police said. (Marlon Ado Jr., USC Comm Intern)
