GUBERNATORIAL candidate Pamela Baricuatro denounced the nine Cebu representatives who supported the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, accusing them of disregarding the will of their constituents.

Baricuatro, who is challenging incumbent Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in the upcoming elections, said the lawmakers ignored the voices of Cebuanos and failed to consider the negative impact of their decision.

In an interview with MyTV Cebu, she criticized them for pushing an aggressive campaign against Duterte, who was elected by over 32 million Filipinos.

She argued that the signatures of nine legislators did not reflect the sentiments of Cebu’s over 1.5 million voters.

“Ilang gibungkag ang panaghiusa sa katawhan pinaagi sa ilang agresibong pagpangusog sa impeachment batok kang VP Sara Duterte,” she said.

She also called on the public to remember the lawmakers’ actions, which she described as irresponsible and a betrayal of the people’s trust.

The House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Duterte on February 5, 2025, with 215 legislators endorsing the complaint.

The nine Cebu representatives who signed the complaint were Eduardo Rama (Cebu City, 2nd District), Ma. Cynthia Chan (Lapu-Lapu City, Lone District), and Emmarie Ouano-Dizon (Mandaue City, Lone District).

Other signatories from Cebu province included Rhea Gullas (1st District), Edsel Galeos (2nd District), Janice Salimbangon (4th District), Duke Frasco (5th District), Daphne Lagon (6th District), and Peter John Calderon (7th District).

Cebu City 1st District Representative Cutie Del Mar and Cebu 3rd District Representative Pablo John Garcia did not sign the complaint.

The impeachment case has been transmitted to the Senate, which will serve as the impeachment tribunal.

Former Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, a known Duterte ally, also criticized the impeachment, saying it was unnecessary and that the government should focus on more pressing national concerns.(MyTVCebu)
