THE defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers capped their elimination round campaign with a 70-61 victory over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the college division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament on Sunday night, November 17, at the Cebu Coliseum.
UV ended the eliminations with seven wins and one loss, a record that put them in a great position to secure a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinal round.
Leading the team standings are the University of Cebu Webmasters, who are 8-0 (win-loss). Trailing the Green Lancers are the Benedicto College Cheetahs, who sport a 5-1 slate.
The Cheetahs still have a chance to steal the top seeding owing to their superior total points. One of the Cheetah’s two remaining assignments will be against the red-hot Webmasters.
The loss on the other hand, ended USPF’s string of Final Four appearances as it crashed to 3-5.
Raul Gentallan once again led UV with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. Reserves Marchie Sabanto, Christopher Isabelo, and PJ Taliman backed Gentallan with nine markers each.
Peter John Peteros led the Panthers with a game-high 17 points. Rolan Daclison chipped in 14 points.(CCM)
